GCNYAHU 2014 CHARITIES

GCNYAHU is pleased to announce that with your generous sponsorships of our recently held Annual Golf Outing,  and membership donations, together we were able  to raise $1000.00 in funds for each of our 2014 Charities:

VERA HOUSE  and  STEVENS-SWAN HUMANE SOCIETY

Vera House was founded in 1977 by a group of concerned individuals led by Sister Mary Vera, CSJ who recognized the need for emergency sheltering services for women in crisis. This original mission blossomed into a wide range of domestic violence services including outreach and advocacy, domestic violence education programming, children's counseling, the Syracuse Area Domestic and Sexual Violence Coalition and a domestic violence education and accountability program for perpetrators of violence.

The Stevens-Swan Humane Society of Oneida County has a rich and diverse background. In the early 1900s it was the work of two separate men from Rome who started working in the area of animal welfare: Gustavus Swan and James N. Stevens. In 1910, Swan and Stevens, both involved in animal and child welfare, combined the two agencies and incorporated them to form the present day "Stevens-Swan Humane Society."
